Competition / International Competition for Master Plan of Yongsan Park

본문

  • Park as a Socio-Cultural Infrastructure

The numerous traces and remnants left at the site of Yongsan Park are neither to be rejected nor to be disposed of all at once. Rather, they should be re-recognized or re-organized as new urban infrastructures of our own time. The topography of the site preserves its original form relatively well, and having been used as military bases for a long period of time, the site is rather well-equipped with modern urban infrastructures. Moreover, various types of buildings in the Yongsan Park area, which explicitly reveal the dynamic history of modern Korea, hold strong functional capacities to accommodate current demands of urban life as well as future values of the human beings.
Yongsan Park is envisaged to be a free and open civic campus for all class of people where relaxation for creativity and potential for self-fulfillment can be provided. Our intention is to render life-long chances of learning something new and valuable for the citizen whilst they relax and enjoy in the park. Therefore, Yongsan Park aims to become a socio-cultural infrastructure that can enhance the overall quality of life, rather than just to become a physical urban infrastructure that tends to emphasize the green at its forefront.
