YoungSun Jung is a representative landscape architect who pioneered and led the landscape design in Korea.
In addition, she is engaged in a wide range of activities as an expert for balanced development and preservation of the national land.
Born in Gyeongsan, Gyeongbuk in 1941. Graduated from the Department of Agriculture, Seoul National University in 1964.
She worked as a professor at Cheongju University, striving hard to nurture younger students.
In 1987 she founded SeoAhn Total Landscape and began her career as a professional landscape architect. Recently Jung educated as
a chair professor in the Department of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
In early years when social awareness on landscape architecture was poor in Korea, Jung remarked the importance of landscape design
through major projects such as ‘Asian Athlete’s Apartment Complex (1984), ‘Seoul Arts Center (1984), ‘Olympic Athlete’s Apartment Complex’(1985),
’Heewon Garden, Hoam Art Museum (1997), ‘Incheon International Airport (1999), ‘Seoul Olympic Museum of Art and Sculpture Park (1999)’,
‘Cheonggye Stream Restoration (Section 1) (2002)’, ‘Gwanghwamun Plaza’, ‘Gyeongchun Line Regeneration Park’, ‘Seoul Botanic Park’.
With Seonyudo Park, Jung raised social awareness on landscape design and was recognized internationally by winning numerous awards : IFLA Award
of Excellence, ASLA Award of Merit, National Government Award and more. Furthermore, Jung has won IFLA Award of Excellence repeatedly
for Cheonggye Stream Restoration project and Seoul Botanic Park, and also won ‘AIA Architecture Honor Award’ for Won Dharma Center project in New York.
Jung, the godmother of Korean landscape architecture, settled the unfamiliar concept of landscape which originated from the West to fit our land and landscape.
Furthermore, she continues her work with desire to express the natural landscape. In planning and designing process, she concretely implements strategies
for ‘context and time of the place’, ‘harmony of landscape types and ecological environment’, ‘space and program for future generation’.
